Fire resistant fabrics

Now that we have established the difference between fire resistance and fire retardance, let's look at which materials are inherently fire resistant.

As mentioned in the previous article: if a fabric is fire resistant it means that it is naturally so and does not necessarily need to be treated to provide protection against fire.

Some of the fire resistant fabrics are:

  • | Aramid
  • | PBI (Polybenzimidazole)
  • | Modacrylic
  • | Polyamide
  • | Nomex
  • | Kevlar

It is important to remember that you need to find out what level of fire protection is needed before you choose your fire resistant- or fire retardant wear to make sure that you choose the best option available for the job
